Scott Marksberry

Technical Director

Scott Marksberry serves as our Technical Director, leading Sporting Arkansas’ player development philosophy, coaching education and long-term competitive strategy. With over two decades of coaching experience, Scott brings a deep understanding of the game and a relentless commitment to helping players and coaches reach their full potential.

Scott’s coaching career spans the college, semi-professional, high school, academy, and youth club levels. He has led both men’s and women’s programs at John Brown University, as well as programs at Union University (TN) and the nationally recognized Wheaton Academy (IL). His 2016 JBU team made a national tournament run and finished in the NAIA Top 15, and he was honored as the NCSAA National Coach of the Year in 2009.

In the club and semi-professional ranks, Scott has served as Head Coach for Ozark FC (NPSL) and as Director of Coaching at Emerald Force SC (TN), where he helped shape club culture and competitive pathways. He brings international experience as well, having coached and played in Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia.

Scott holds multiple coaching certifications through United Soccer Coaches (USC), including the Premier, Advanced National and National Diplomas, as well as a Level 1 Goalkeeping Certificate. His pursuit of coaching excellence also includes specialty diplomas in topics such as Sports Psychology, Team Culture, Tactical Systems, and Individual Mental Skills. He is a frequent speaker on topics like Value-Driven Leadership, Defining and Developing Team Culture and Practical Pathways to Culture Change.

Scott’s coaching philosophy is shaped by the belief that technical and tactical development must go hand-in-hand with character and mindset. His favorite teams to study and support are those led by visionary managers like Pep Guardiola, Marco Bielsa, Brendan Rogers and Jürgen Klopp — coaches known for demanding style, clarity of purpose, and player development.

At Sporting Arkansas, Scott leads with that same clarity — developing coaches, guiding players and building a club culture that puts people first and raises the standard of soccer across Northwest Arkansas.
